The Legend Of Jack Sparrow

Saturday, January 6th, 2007

Three guys from my godson’s class have been making their own spin on the Pirates Of The Carribean films. I’m quite amazed at what kids can accomplish with a few basic tools these days. The editing is a bit basic, but the atmosphere and the humor are bang on. They have grabbed the character of Captain Jack very well, adding a pythonesque quality to his spiel.

Also, watch for the accidental word play at the beginning, when the executor mispronounces “Crown”…

Here they are :

A Damn Fine Cigar

Friday, January 5th, 2007

These days, when you smoke in public you’re likely to get crucified. Used to be a time when it was OK for a children’s comic hero to advertise cigars (from a Dutch magazine, somewhere in the 80’s)…

L For Lloyd

David Lloyd, famed co-creator of V For Vendetta, has a blog ! Check out LforLLOYD dot com, with some nice unseen images.

It may not be that creative an idea, but I was the first one to use that title. I can only hope that it somehow stuck in David’s mind, and he remembered it when he had to come up with a monnicker for his own blog.

Johan De Moor shows the way

Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007

Since this blog is something of a continuation of my Yahoo Group, i’ve decided to post some stuff from time to time that has made the rounds there. I’ll try to limit myself to stuff that’s fairly public domain.

To start with, here’s a series of illustrations that Johan De Moor did for a publication that was meant to show us Belgian citizens the way through our labyrinthine government bodies.

What’s interesting about this, is that De Moor has brought back to life Balthazar, a character his father, Bob De Moor, created as a filler in Tintin magazine. Bob De Moor, of course, being the genius that gave the later Tintin books the lustre they deserved.

Enjoy…

Useful and pleasing to the eye.

Festivus

I’m currently catching up with my zillion rss feeds, and discovering gems by the truckload. Cartoonist Dan Zettwoch, for example, has created a beautiful Festivus poster. What’s more, he even presents us with a step-by-step breakdown of his creative and production process. Sweet !

Another year, another blog…
