These ads for the cough pastille Strepsils were made by Simon Ng from Singapore. I’m totally in awe about the flair with which Simon manages to emulate a number of very different comic styles. Moreover, the ads’ concept is very well wrought : they use a popular form of narration to attract attention, but it also play with the medium’s devices to support the brand’s message. Genius !
Do check out Simon’s blog, as he does some amazing things in an amazingly varied number of styles.

Chad Geran’s Rhyme Book reminds me of books I used to have as a kid, more particularly the books by Alain Grée. I’m completely smitten, and I can’t wait to have this in my hands.

Max, one of the best cartoonists in Europe at the moment (and, as I was able to experience in Angoulème earlier this year, one of the nicest guys working the booths), has a website. It’s content is fairly standard (biography, bibliography, news), but I do like the navigation, which uses the iconic elements from Max’s masterpiece, Bardin Le Surréaliste. Cool !

Fabio Moon and Gabriel Ba, Brazilian comics geniuses, celebrate their being on the Entertainment Weekly 100 list. Which is pretty neat in itself, but they also were given the opportunity to do a ful-page self-portrait !

For all you fiends of the java (like me). From Davey Schlafman, who does some amazing things…

Urbanus whoopie cushions…

I like carrier bags. I think they are a good medium to bring good art to the masses. Case in point - two bags designed by cartoonists for comic stores. The one above was made by Ever Meulen for Het Besloten Land in Leuven. The one below is by Roger Langridge, for Gosh in London.
