Particle collision for dummies

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

With all the talk about CERN’s “black hole” experiment that’s starting today, my youngest son wanted to know what the fuzz was all about, and I was lost for words.  I guess from a pedagogical point of view, it was a good thing that we were both confronted with my limited knowledge, but at the same time, it bugged me.

So, I was over the moon when I read PhD comics’ Jorge Cham report on his visit to the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva.  At least now I’m starting to understand what this is all about.
