Pencils at Dawn is a new cartoon blog on which Mike Jacobsen and Phil Selby battle with their pencils over one keyword. Very good stuff, and not just because it happens to feature the Penguin.

Anticipation - Warner Bros is really taking this viral movie marketing to the next level. I mean, this Batman movie will take on a “new, darker take” on the Joker ? So what ? It’s been only 20 years since The Killing Joke… And it’s only slated for release a year from now ! What are they going to do next ? Fly a plane in a building somewhere ? Oh, I guess that would be bad taste…
But then, maybe I’m just a bit pissed off because I always seem to get to know about this only afterwards.
I think this is hilarious. More at YouTube. Be sure to check out the renditions of the Back to The Future theme and the Superman Theme.
Somebody give this guy a gig !
These images are from a Flemish Government awareness campaign that was set up to coincide with one election or other (we have so many of them, it’s hard to keep count). The general idea is clear : don’t just vote for white men - other people may be just as qualified for the job. But the use of superheros made it stand out. For a while.

Used to be a time when you could find stamps with US comic characters from countries all over the world, except from the US themselves. Since 2005, the US Post Office is finally catching on. Brilliant move, although I think the choice of characters is a bit too much driven by marketing, and the art is not that representative. Personnaly, I would have had one artist doing all the portraits (Darwyn Cooke, or Alex Ross). Still, it beats licking the back of a president…

The son of Frank D Foster II (aptly called Frank D. Foster III) claims his father is the true creator of the Batman, and he has the art to prove it. Of sorts.

I admit it, my first real exposure to Batman was through the Adam West incarnation in the TV series. Apparently a film was made as well at that time. Oh well, I guess we’ll just call it “camp”…

I Believe in Harvey Dent - and I’m thinking, whatever happened to Tommy Lee Jones ?
Julian Beever is a pavement artist par excellence. His trompe l’oeuils are simply awesome. Here are two examples, featuring Spider-Man and Batman. Be sure to check out the rest of his site !
