Jan vander Veken from Vacature

Leave it to Vacature, Belgium’s biggest free job ads paper, to come up with some exquisite illustrative work.  This artwork (by Jan vander Veken, above, and Lode Devroe, below) ran in the magazine in the month of August, alongside articles on music while you work and incentives by banks for new recruits.

Lode Devroe is a Flemish cartoonist and illustrator who takes the “Atomic Style” that was pioneered by people like Ever Meulen and Serge Clerc to the limit. He made his debut a while ago in the business weekly Bizz, and has contributed to a host of papers and magazines since.

This illustration was published in this week’s Vacature, a free paper for personnel ads. I liked the fact that it was on such a large size, so I tried to keep the image as large as possible, to do justice to the art’s level of detail.

For more Devroe, check out Dr. Dia or the Top Shelf website. Or have a go at Blog Deluxe, a group blog that Devroe participates in.
