This great piece of comics criticism was lifted from The Spirit #19, written by Mark Evanier and Sergio Aragonés with art by Paul Rivoche (DC Comics, september 2008).  I don’t think Scott McCloud could have put it better.  And it doesn’t end there…

40 Part 22 - The CBLDF Cruise

Jeff Smith created this beautiful cartoon to promote the Making Waves Cruise, which was organised around 2000 to support the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. It features all the major “alternative” comic heroes at that time : Marv (from Frank Miller’s Sin City), Neil Gaiman’s Sandman, The Spirit, Evan Dorkin’s Milk And Cheese (”dairy products gone bad”, indeed) and, of course, Smith’s own Bone.

The CBLDF was founded in 1986 as a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of First Amendment rights for members of the comics community. It deserves your support
