I wrote about this before on the Forbidden Planet Blog Log :
The American illustrator, animator and cartoonist Richard McGuire has designed the poster for the upcoming edition of the Flemish comics festival Strip Turnhout. This festival will be held for the thirtieth time on 14th, 15th and 16th of December in the Flemish city of Turnhout.
McGuire is probably best known for the cover illustrations he provided for The New Yorker, but he has also made animated movies, children’s books and comic strips. In 1989 he published his short story “hereâ€, without any doubt one of the most important strips ever created.
Earlier this year, McGuire’s work was the subject of a small but very entertaining exhibition at the Angouleme Comics Festival. A long article about McGuire and the complete “Here†were published in the most recent issue of Todd Hignite’s Comic Art (Buenaventura Press). For his Strip Turnhout poster, McGuire wants to focus on the creative act of cartooning, while at the same time paying homage to one of the greatest cartoons of all time: George Herrimann’s Krazy Kat.
Joe was gracious enough to leave me the honor of unveiling the poster itself. So, here it is…
where could i find the article about mcguire on Comic Art magazine online??
I didn’t know he had the poster up, actually :-)! But now you’ve unveiled it I shall shamelessly link to it.
