Mattotti’s Soccer Comics

Even though it’s not shown up on my radar so far, I think I may chime in with the current World Cup domination of the world’s media.  , Apparently, Italian cartoonist and visual artist Lorenzo Mattotti wrote and drew a mini-series of comics about soccer called Alè  Tran Tran, for a publisher called Phoenix in the early 1980’s.

Thanks to Dutch connoisseur and collector Arthur Van Kruining, who recently put up some fragments from the series on his Flickr page, we can now all fill that gap in our comics knowledge.  And what great art !   It’s not Roy of the Rovers, that’s for sure. Thanks, Arthur !
