Tomorrow is July 21st, which is the day my country celebrates its National Holiday. This year the occasion is supposed to be a bit more important than usual, as our king has abdicated earlier this month, and now his son Philippe will be crowned the new king of Belgium.
For the daily newspaper De Morgen, illustrator Sarah Yu Zeebroek created this portrait of the new king and his queen, holding their tax returns. Because that’s the real novelty – as of this year, the king is supposed to pay taxes on his income, as are all his compatriots.
