I had been thinking about how I could add anything to the current debate about the attack on Charlie Hebdo on Wednesday, without echoing the many opinions and takes that had already been published all over the place.
Yesterday, this short strip by Joe Sacco appeared on the Guardian website, and it is a rare, balanced account of his personal feelings and opinions. Yes, we are sad about the deaths of so many people, and yes, we are unwavering in our defence of the freedom of speech, but at the same time, let’s try and find the root cause of this kind of violence towards what is basically just ink on paper.
