There used to be a time when Tintin was hot enough with the general public that he (and his fellow Hergé creations) were used to peddle anything from cars to cigars to ice cream, as seen here.

And there used to be a time when children were happy with a teeny little sticker that they could put up on a collection poster that would never be complete…
